Find answers for the animals you’ve been separated from.

I was separated from my pet

Circumstances beyond your control kept you apart. Tell us about them and find out if they’re safe.

I’d love to know my pet’s story

You adopted, fostered or found an animal who had a home before you. Share their photo and learn where they came from.

Sometimes life separates us from the animals we love, in ways we couldn’t control. Leal helps you find out they’re safe, and helps the people caring for them now learn their story. It’s free and private.

How it works

  1. Tell us about the animal

Sign in with a code we email you, then add photos, the kind of animal, a name and the city. You choose who can see it.

  2. We look for possible matches

When someone posts an animal that might be the same one, we email you both. We compare the photos to help.

  3. Talk privately

Write to each other through Leal. Share news, photos or more: only what you want.

Your safety comes first

  • We never ask about immigration status, nationality, documents or a criminal record.
  • Listings show only a city, never an address or anyone’s name.
  • Your email and phone number stay private. You share them only if you choose to.
  • We remove hidden location data from every photo.

Never pay anyone for news of a pet. Leal is free, and no one who truly wants to help will ask you for money.

If an animal lives with you now

Thank you for giving them a home. Sharing their story doesn’t mean giving them back. Many people only want to know their animal is safe and loved. What you share, and what happens next, is up to you.

Common questions

Is Leal free?

Yes. Leal is free for everyone. Never pay anyone for news of an animal: no one who truly wants to help will ask you for money.

Who can see my information?

Your name, email and phone number are never shown. A listing shows only the animal’s photos and description, a city or region, and a month. When you post, you choose whether everyone can see it or only people whose animal might match.

What if I don’t remember exactly when it happened?

That’s all right. Choose the year and leave the month as “Not sure”. When we look for possible matches, we allow for dates that are remembered loosely.

How do you find possible matches?

We look for listings of the same kind of animal, in the same area, where the dates fit, and email you when one appears. If both have photos, an AI compares them to help. You always decide for yourself whether to write.

Who runs Leal?

Leal is free and independent. It isn’t part of any government agency, and we never sell your information. If you have questions, write to us at hello@leal.dog.
